My Heroes

September 11, 2001 - I was a freshman at the wonderful University of Georgia.  I had an early (9am) biology lab.  I got up and took the bus to class, just like any other day.  Some people, who came to class after I got there, were talking about how a plane had crashed in to the World Trade Center.  Before the lab even got started, a professor ran into the class and yelled that campus was closed and to leave immediately.  As I walked back into my dorm, I stopped in the common area of the lobby and watched on the big screen TV the replay of the second plane hitting the second tower.  I remember being afraid and wanting to go home.  I wanted my parents.  I wanted to be in my house.  I wanted HOME.  However, my parents felt like I was safe at school and told me to stay put.  My roommate and I spent the day glued to the TV.  I remember most the days of patriotism that followed 9-11.  I remember the outpouring of support for firefighters and police officers.  I was so proud that my daddy was a fireman.  I knew that my dad would have gone into the building to save everyone he could.

Below are the pictures of my 3 heros - only 1 was my hero in 2001 but on 9-11, 2011 - I am blessed to have 3 heroes.

This is my awesome hubby who just returned from Afghanistan.  He was gone for over 200 days - we missed him so much but are so glad to have him home!

The next pictures are of my two are my favorite firemen.  The picture on the left is of my dad and brother on my dad's last night as a fireman (he retired after 33 years of service).  The picture on the right is of my brothers first day as a fireman.  AND the cute little Hankers in the middle???  That's my boy, destined to be a hero too!
